Sadly, our downtown has a lot of stores with signs like this. We had a thriving downtown and it really went downhill. And a lot of the former boutiques are second-hand places like this too!
Great photo
All rather sad, I think. It speaks to the loss of character of our small towns. There were towns where no one was around.
And in so many of the small towns, the limited population is aging … which means, soon, the whole nature of the town will change. Properties sold, allowed to get run-down, and/or demolished. They’ve been fighting it here, but I fear that it is a losing battle.
Without intending to, I seem to be capturing nuggets of the lack of vitality, maybe even dying, of small towns. I imagine more vibrant times, before it all moved out to the highway or beyond to the city.
Well, it needs to be documented … interesting – sometimes beautiful – but tragic at the same time.
We’re losing another book store in my ‘burg. No Borders, no Waldenbooks, no Barnes and Noble. The used book stores are blinking out. There will be one store left after August 3rd; and it sort of recycles cheap paperbacks. The closing store had awesome, hard-to-find stuff. Fun browsing. He’s moving his business online. Yet another victim of changing times . Why go to the icky downtown when you can surf online?
I should try to get a few pictures of his shop before he closes. A dying breed.
Nice photo! (I’d correct the pincushion distortion in post-processing though.)
Great advice! I’m still learning what can and needs to be done post-processing. That helps a lot. Thanks.
Coming from film photography, I was reluctant to jump into PP, but I have found Lightroom to be fantastic and easy way to both manage my images and process them.
